| We Give Back to the CommunityThe Builders Association of Central PA strives to improve the community in which our members work and live. Each year the association supports the community through various charitable programs, promoting trade education, and offering resources to consumers.Awards more than $3,600 Scholarships Each Year to Local Students Kevin L. Zimmerman Building Industry Scholarship Fund – In honor of past president and association advocate Kevin Zimmerman, the association has worked with Penn College to establish this scholarship fund. Money from the fund was raised by Kevin's family and BACP members. Each year, $1,000 is awarded to a Center County senior that will attend Penn College enrolled in the School of Construction and Design. Scholarship awards are to be used to defray the costs of tuition, fees, books, tools required, instructional supplies, and other related expenses. Local High School Scholarships – Each year the association awards approximately $600 in scholarships to local high school seniors that display outstanding skills in carpentry, masonry, and the building trades. Penn State NAHB Student Chapter Scholarship – Each year the association awards a $2,000 scholarship to an outstanding engineering student studying residential building at Penn State University.
Partnerships with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Center CountyEach year the BACP partners with Habitat for the Annual Bricks and Sticks Golf Classic. The 2008 tournament raised more than $18,000 in support of Habitat. Funds raised through the Bricks & Sticks Golf Classic were used to build homes for families in need of affordable housing in the Centre Region. The Builders Association of Central PA also participates in HouseWalk, which is a 5-mile walk to raise money for Habitat. The BACP organized and ran the Habitat Blitz Builds in 1990, 1992, 2000 – More than 300 volunteers came together to build a house in 30 hours for a Habitat family.
Charitable Donations back to the Community A portion of the ticket proceeds from the Annual Parade of Homes & Landscapes is donated to a local charity. In 2008, the BACP donated $3,100 to the Centre County Child Access Center. The BACP plans to donate a portion of the 2009 Parade ticket proceeds to the Homes for our Troops organization.
