About the Builders Association of Central PennsylvaniaHistoryOne evening in October 1957, a handful of local builders got together for dinner at Mountain Acres. Among them were Donald E. Antes, E.D. "Jack" Frost, J. Alvin Hawbaker, and Roy Spicer; they were joined by representatives from the then-five-year-old Pennsylvania Builders Association. By the time dessert was served, a new organization was born - the Homebuilders Association of Central Pennsylvania. The mission: to support local builders, enhance the industry's image, increase influence over government action, promote integrity in practice, and be a source for high standards of construction excellence. The association's first activities targeted two primary areas: networking and influencing legislation. "They would have monthly dinners and picnics and talk about the good and bad in the business," recalls Grace Strong, Antes' daughter. "They were a really nice bunch of guys. I don't think there was really an rivalry among them because they were all involved in different parts of the business." New Mission Statement The Builders Association of Central Pennsylvania is a professional organization dedicated to supporting our members and their customers through education, establishing standards and best practices, and by providing opportunities and resources, while striving to improve the community in which we work and live.
